January 30-Day Focus: Blogging

I can’t believe I’m already on month 5 (F-I-V-E!!!) of my (year-long) 30-Day Focus Project, and I have to say, it has been an AMAZING experiment for me.  The clarity I have found in identifying the 12 most important areas of my life has been profoundly helpful in improving my ability to make plans, decisions, and set goals for my work, my relationships and in basically every area of my life.  I feel like I have accomplished more in the last 4 months than I have in the last 4 years!  I’ve been announcing each one as they come, but here is the full list in case you’ve been curious:

September-Health

October-Performance Career

November-Youth Orchestra

December-Home

January-Blogging

February-Marriage

March-Finances

April-Teaching

May-Friends

June-Family

July-Travel

August-Self

And, while each month I focus particular time and energy on one main area–tackling some major goals and projects related to it, it’s not like I am neglecting the other 11.  In fact, not only do I sit down on the 1st day of each month and set out one or two biggish goals for each of the 11 non-focus areas, but I do that each week, and to be honest, every single day.  To ask myself “What can I do today to make my friendships stronger?” or “What can I do today to make things better at BYSO?” etc.  and the big-ticket items that would previously weigh on me day after day, week after week, month after month (year after year!) don’t get a second thought anymore.  Instead of “oh my god, we NEED to get our will done”.  It’s on the list for March, and if the last 4 months have taught me anything, it’s that it will, in fact, get done in March.

As for this month?  I’m going to focus on this here blog ‘o mine.  My goal is to start posting more frequently, and grow this little community, and mostly to just get better at it.  I am so appreciative of everyone who has read and posted comments.  Please keep doing it, and I would ask that if you have enjoyed Tales From the Lane, or if you know of someone who would enjoy it, please pass it along and encourage others to follow/subscribe.  Word of mouth is a blogger’s best friend.  And since I’ll be putting together a massive content calendar for the year (yikes! Not overwhelming to me AT ALL, folks!) I’d love to hear what you would be interested in seeing more of.  You can post ideas and suggestions in the comment box.  I’d also love to know what your 12 Focus items would be.  I’m curious to see if I’ll decide to keep the same ones when I come around to next September, or if I’ll change things up.  Life has a habit of shifting around on us, doesn’t it?
